Founder Chris Johnson spent seven years serving in the US Army, a time where he fell in love with the act of collecting wristwatches. He was captivated by the sheer variety of fine watches out there, and wanted to collect as many as he could during his travels. He started during a one year posting in Germany, and picked up new watches all over Europe as he travelled with the army.

As you’ll see on the company’s site, Johnson believed that watches were a statement that ran much deeper than simply telling the time. After all, a watch face is universal wherever you go. When did he move from collecting watches to designing his own? It was during a flight home from Africa that Johnson began sketching out his first design, The Muse. This simplistic watch features even numbers on the face, along with a rose gold case and brown leather strap, was his first foray into design but certainly not his last.
