Well you can call them package boxes, parcel bins, parcel boxes what ever you want to.  One thing is for sure you will want to get a parcel box for home.  Parcel boxes are not nearly as popular as they should be.  With the amount of people now online purchasing all kinds of goods you would think everyone who buys online would have one.  That’s definitely not the case.

Why is it that people will order products online, have them delivered just to be left unprotected on their front steps?  Wouldn’t it be great to have a box in some cases an attractive one or at least a inconspicuous one be left on your property to have deliveries placed into them.

The main differences is this item shown has a padlock option and a hinged top. The padlock hinge is made to be used with BoxLock parcel delivery lock or another smart lock.  The BoxLock is a smart padlock which we wrote about in an earlier post.

The Express Package Delivery Box you can’t lock it.  The box and the lid are two separate pieces.  Both boxes have the same storage capacity just different lids. The dimensions are 31.00” H 18.00” W 23.00” D the basic parcel box does weigh slightly more then the upgraded model. The above video is about the Keter Parcel Drop Box.  It’s a attractive useful parcel drop box that like the Step2 boxes comes in different colors.  The Keter website says it’s available in dark brown and dark grey.  Dimensions are 44” Tall x 24.4” Wide x 20.9” Deep.  The website also claims the interior is 19.7 inches wide and 15.7 inches deep.

You will need to use a lock on the bottom of the parcel box.  Think about using a combination lock box.  It gives you the flexibility of giving the combo out to others if your not home to retrieve the parcels.  Sometimes you will even use this box for others to pick up things from your house and it provides easy access.

 The positives about this box is it can keep your packages out of the view of thieves and out of poor weather conditions.  With online purchasing steadily becoming more popular it unfortunately increases parcel theft.  This box won’t stop a determined thief from getting your stuff but it will deter the people looking for an easy grab and go parcel theft.  With the good comes the bad too.  This product does not come fully assembled.  There is some work to do once this item arrives at your house.  Some people have complaints about the instructions.

Here are the instructions in a pdf file from Keter’s website to judge for yourself.  Most people report it takes about 20-30 minutes to assemble the Keter Parcel Drop Box and you need a screwdriver or a cordless drill to put it together.

Danby Parcel Guard

If your looking for a parcel drop box with all the bells and whistles, or maybe I should say cameras and smartphone apps than the Danby Parcel Guard is the parcel box for you.  You could call this the parcel box on steroids or the one on WiFi.  If you watch the short one minute video above it will fill you in with all this parcel box has to offer.

Let’s go over the main features. You will need to have WiFi available for this device to work at its full capabilities.  This parcel box is a smart box.  It connects to your smart phone through the Danby app.  You can control this box through your phone as well as watch video from the camera in the parcel box. This parcel box will fit packages up to 15” x 10”x 8”.  There’s a weight sensor in the box that will let you know you have a delivery, and you will get a notification.

 The Danby Parcel Guard has a tamper alarm too if anybody thinks they can just break into your parcel box and steal your stuff.  Of course there’s an compartment in the parcel guard  to weight down the box, and accessories that come with it to anchor it to a surface so it is hard to move.

The Danby Parcel Guard comes in two colors black and grey. The manufacturer offers a 24 month parts and labor warranty with the parcel box.  Suggestions, this parcel box is best used along with delivery signs and house numbers.

How Will The Delivery Person Know To Use It

 This is an easy question, you can always ask your UPS driver, USPS Letter Carrier or Federal Express driver or any other delivery driver to use your new parcel box when you get one.  That’s easier said than done in some cases because we aren’t always home when the delivery drivers are dropping off packages, hence the need to get a parcel box.  So, we can get signs.   These signs are cheap and easy to find online.  Just place them in the area the delivery people usually drop your stuff off.  Don’t forget to place another sign over the parcel box or at least somewhere close to it, to let them know where to leave it.

What Else Is There To Know

There’s a few things we should talk about, how bout how are these boxes secured to my property?  Can’t thieves just steal my parcel box.  If a thief is motivated to try to steal something, a parcel box won’t completely stop them.  It might make it harder on them, but a thief is going to do what a thief is going to do.  Because it’s going to be easier on a thief to grab a package off your step than go grab a big parcel box.
